To be a registered nurse needs typically two years training or higher education. Once you have got the degree in nursing, you are eligible to take the registered nursing exam. This exam will earn you the license through which you will be able to work as a registered nurse. The name of the test is National Council License Examination for Registered Nurses. It is also called in short form NCLEX-RN.

There is yet another test of the same kind. It is named NCLEX-PN. This test is taken for vocational and practical nurses. These tests have been designed to cover the skills, knowledge and ability of nursing. Through this test it is ensured that the person taking the test is ready to enter the profession of nursing or not. Your strength in the areas of nursing is judged through these tests.

The demand for registered nurses is tremendously high and the choice for people who are highly skilled is on a continuous rise. This profession needs people who have knowledge, a responsible nature and precision in what they do. The technological advancement in the field of medicine has boosted the jobs for registered nurses. They are required in the hospitals, nursing homes, health care agencies, outpatient care centers, clinics, schools, etc.

The most familiar areas where registered nurses are demanded are acute care, women's health, family practice, adult practice and pediatrics. Also, there are outside jobs like in schools, military, correctional facilities and summer camps. All registered nurses are required there.

Their main duty is to promote good health, prevent diseases, and help people during their illness. The nurses should be educated and well experienced in their fields. Their job needs more dedication and lots of patience. Their major responsibility is to help treat patients, and educate patients and people about diseases, and advise them and give emotional support to their families. Good writing skills are also a prerequisite for following the doctor's prescriptions.

They have to work along with physicians, surgeons and health care practitioners. Most of the organizations these days ask for a college degree in the discipline from an accredited institute.

Jobs for registered nurses have emerged in many areas. Demand is high and supply is small. As a result, there is handsome salary for them as well. To attract qualified nurses now hospitals offer a fairly high remuneration. This gives them a chance to earn satisfaction through material gains and by serving mankind.
